What a mess! Oobleck, a substance stuck between a solid and a liquid, was used in the 6th grade Science classes to demonstrate the three states of matter. In doing so, the students had to do various tests to determine whether the substance was a solid or a liquid. Most students had decided that it was both. In its liquid state, its particles were free to move around. Therefore, this allowed the substance to act more like a liquid (take the shape of its container, allow solids to pass through it, etc.) However, when the Oobleck is pushed upon, the particles are then forced together and thus turn into a solid (does not easily change its shape, nor volume, nor mass). Overall, the students learned about the three different states of matter; volume, matter, and mass.
