The dry ice experiment is one
of the 6th graders most favorite projects to do. In class the students were able to use dry ice
pellets to study density, states of matter, and the containment of a
gas. When the dry ice was put into a cup of water, the ice began
sublimating from a solid (frozen) to a gas (room temperature). In
doing so, the density of the matter made the gas (smoke) overflow
downward. In other words, it is denser than air. Using those
properties, the students put out a fire with it, then added some
normal dish soap to the experiment and made carbon dioxide bubbles.
Be sure to ask them about it! Thanks to Mrs. Panizzi for getting the dry
ice!!!!!
